One of my favourite widget is "Recent Post Advance", it shows your recent posts with thumbnails.
1. Backup your template. recomended
2. Go to layout tab "Page Elements".
3. Add a gadget > Featured.
4. Choose "Recent Posts Advance".
An advance recent-post widget is yours.
